Today, a significant milestone was achieved in Bengaluru’s public transportation as a prototype of the Tata Motors’ smart electric bus was ceremoniously flagged off. The event saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Shri Ramalinga Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of Karnataka, Dr. N. V. Prasad, IAS, Secretary to Government, Transport Department, and Ms. G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). Joining them were representatives from Tata Motors and TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited.
With the induction of these advanced electric buses, Bengaluru’s public transportation system is set to become smarter, safer, and more eco-friendly. Under the larger agreement signed between Tata Motors’ subsidiary, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., and BMTC, a total of 921 state-of-the-art 12-meter low-floor electric buses will be supplied, operated, and maintained for the next 12 years. The Tata Starbus EV is an indigenous creation, showcasing superior design and best-in-class features, offering a sustainable and comfortable commute experience for the citizens of Bengaluru. This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting greener and more sustainable transportation solutions in the city.
In response to the announcement, Ms. G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, expressed her delight in flagging off Tata Motors’ electric bus prototype. She emphasized that the advanced features and impressive performance of the electric bus align perfectly with BMTC’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing the citizens’ quality of life. Ms. Sathyavathi also stated that they look forward to complementing their fleet with Tata Motors’ new, smart electric buses, furthering their mission towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation.
