Toyota Rumion MPV Launch in India by September: What to Expect?

Toyota Rumion MPV: Around September of this year, Toyota will sell the Rumion MPV in India. It is based on the Maruti Ertiga. The company already sells the Rumion in places like South Africa, and Maruti Suzuki will build and supply the Indian model, just like it does for the rest of the world.

Toyota Rumion: another rebadged Maruti

The Rumion went on sale in South Africa at the beginning of October 2021. The same month, the company that made it also filed a trademark for the name in India. The Rumion will be the fourth MPV that Toyota sells in India. The Innova Crysta, the Innova Hycross, and the Vellfire are the other three. The Vellfire MPV will also get a full redesign in the near future.

The only difference between the Rumion MPV sold in South Africa and the Ertiga sold in India is that the South African version has a different grille, different metal wheels, and Toyota logos instead of Suzuki logos. Even on the inside, the dashboards and lists of kit are the same for both MPVs. The South African Rumion is different from the Ertiga because its interior is all black, while the Ertiga’s interior is beige. However, the Indian model is expected to have the same interior as the Ertiga.

The Rumion will also have the same 1.5-liter gasoline engine as the Ertiga in India. This engine has 103hp and 137Nm of torque. It will come with either a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission. You can expect a CNG engine choice to be added a little bit later. The Rumion will also be offered with three rows and eight seats, just like the Ertiga.

Toyota Rumion: second Maruti-supplied product in India

As part of the relationship between Toyota and Suzuki, the Rumion is the second Maruti product that Toyota sells in India after the Glanza. Maruti also sells more cars to Toyota outside of India. The Ciaz is called the Belta, the Celerio is called the Vitz, and the Baleno is called the Starlet. The Grand Vitara is basically a Maruti product, but it is made by Toyota at its plant in Bidadi, Karnataka, along with the Hyryder, which is basically the same car with a different name.

The Invicto MPV, which is based on the Innova Hycross and was just released, is the second Toyota model to be sold in India as a Maruti. Also, in countries like the UK, Suzuki sells the Toyota RAV4 SUV as the A-Cross SUV and the Corolla Wagon as the Suzuki Swace.
