Given the robust growth observed in the MPV segment, there’s potential for Hyundai to introduce the Stargazer in India by 2024. Having entered production in 2022, the Hyundai Stargazer compact MPV is currently available in select Asian markets such as Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Brunei. Buoyed by a positive market reception, Hyundai has expanded its offerings by introducing a fresh variant labeled with an ‘X’ suffix. This upgraded version, dubbed the Stargazer X, elevates the experience with a range of premium features, including both cosmetic enhancements and functional upgrades. In global markets, the Stargazer X is positioned to rival formidable contenders like the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, Honda BR-V, and the Toyota Rush/Daihatsu Terios. If it finds its way to the Indian market, the Stargazer will contend with established players like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (XL7) and the recently unveiled Toyota Rumion, further intensifying the competition in this dynamic segment.
Stargazer X styling, features
The Stargazer X presents a commanding stance with an enhanced sporty front fascia, particularly accentuated by the silver highlights on the grille, reminiscent of a chequered flag motif.
Retaining most of the front-end features from its predecessor, the Stargazer boasts a distinctive triangular headlamp and fog lamp housing, complemented by a generously sized windshield that adds to the MPV’s robust character. The substantial bumper further amplifies its street presence, while a continuous LED strip lines the bonnet.
The side profile closely resembles the standard variant, showcasing squared wheel arches, assertive character lines on the door panels, and black trims along the wheelbase. Elevating its athletic charm are the intricately designed alloy wheels, standing at 17 inches and fitted with 205/55 Goodyear tires.
The rear of the Stargazer distinguishes itself with its signature H-style tail lamps, making an unmistakable statement on the road. The sizeable triangular lighting elements make a bold impact, accentuated by an extended tailgate spoiler.
Inside the Stargazer X’s cabin, a host of new features await. The black leatherette upholstery, accompanied by striking red stitching, exudes a premium ambiance. Unique red-patterned sections adorn the right side of the seats, contributing to its distinct appeal. The top-tier Prime variant is graced with Bose speakers, delivering an indulgent audio experience.
While much of the equipment aligns with the standard Stargazer version, the MPV includes offerings like a wireless phone charger, a digital instrument panel, an 8-inch touchscreen, ambient mood lighting, and wireless compatibility with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Stargazer encompasses an extensive safety suite, thanks to Hyundai SmartSense technology (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). This encompassing suite features forward collision avoidance assist, lane following assist, high beam assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, a rearview monitor, and a comprehensive airbag system with six airbags.
Hyundai Stargazer X performance
Under the hood, the Stargazer X maintains continuity with the standard version, housing the same powertrain. Propelled by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated Smartstream engine, it generates a robust 115 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 144 Nm. This powerplant is seamlessly coupled with an IVT gearbox, ensuring a smooth and efficient transmission. The Stargazer X’s power is efficiently directed to the front wheels, contributing to its dynamic performance.
For Indonesian markets, the Hyundai Stargazer X will be offered in two distinct variants. The Style variant carries a price tag of Rp 325.6 million, roughly translating to around INR 17.67 lakh. Meanwhile, the Prime variant kicks off at Rp 336.2 million, which is approximately INR 18.25 lakh.
