Electric vehicles represent the future of mobility, and the number of electric vehicles launched to the market has increased during the last four years. Electric vehicles have been launched in India by Indian automobile manufacturers such as Tata, Mahindra, and luxury car manufacturers. According to a recent news, the Delhi government has revealed that the number of electric vehicle sales in the state has increased. From the beginning of the year, the national capital has sold 18,770 electric vehicles. According to the survey, one out of every 10 cars sold in the city this year was an electric vehicle.
Electric vehicles generated an average of 10% of total vehicle sales in the city in January and February. In February, 5,268 EVs were registered in the city, out of a total of 48,728 automobiles. Similarly, 5,576 EVs were registered in January of this year. In the month of March, the state registered 7,926 electric vehicles, including commercial vehicles. Passenger electric vehicles accounted for 20% of these sales. The Delhi government resorted to social media, tweeting, “Delhi EV sales March’23 report..” 7,917 electric automobiles have been sold. EVs accounted for 14.8% of total vehicle sales in the month, the highest contribution of any state in India. 4W sales accounted for 20% of all EV sales. 3W (Goods) provided 12% of the total. 1.12 million EVs were sold under Delhi’s EV policy #SwitchDelhi.”
As stated in the article, this is the highest of any state in the country. The policy is the reason why more individuals in Delhi are choosing electric automobiles. In 2020, the state’s Aam Aadmi Party government announced a comprehensive policy for electric vehicle customers. With the policy’s implementation, the state’s total number of electric vehicles has increased to 1.12 lakh units.
The Delhi government is working hard to promote and popularize the use of electric vehicles. The Delhi government’s electric car policy provides incentives to electric vehicle owners, which has encouraged many consumers to purchase electric vehicles. In addition to encouraging people to use electric automobiles, the Delhi government has added electric buses to the city’s public transportation system.
Electric vehicles will be the mobility of the future in India and around the world. The federal and state governments are presently working hard to promote the usage of electric vehicles in order to reduce pollution in several major cities. Many states have incentive-based EV programs to accelerate the rate of adoption, similar to the Delhi government’s EV policy. They’ve also built charging stations for electric automobiles on important routes. Tata Motors is currently one of the market’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers, with models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max, Tigor EV, and the recently announced Tiago EV.
The Nexon EV is the best-selling electric SUV in the country, and Tata is now developing a couple of other electric vehicles for the market, including the Tata Harrier, whose concept debuted at the Auto Expo this year. Tata also showed the public the Avinya concept and the Curvv EV concept. The number of electric car sales in the country is expected to increase in the future years.
