Starting from the front, the Jimny’s distinct body-colored bumper is equipped with larger fog lamp housings. The fascia has been completely redesigned, featuring an AMG-style grille with vertical slats and a prominent Suzuki logo in the center. The original headlamps have been replaced with G-Wagen-inspired rounded all-LED headlamps, and the front fenders are revamped to closely resemble those of the G-Wagen, complete with clear-lens turn indicators on top.
Moving on to the side profile, the Jimny retains its black-colored steel wheels while gaining G-Wagen-like blacked-out rear-view mirrors. Custom body wraps and bolt-on kits for cars often fall into a legal grey area in India due to the potential for altering the vehicle’s identity. Authorities like the police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) might consider them illegal as they can significantly change the appearance of the car.
In India, certain modifications can be made to vehicles without violating the original manufacturer’s specifications. Cosmetic adjustments like changing the car’s color, adding minor accessories such as rain visors and bumper corner protectors, and upgrading tires and wheels to those of a higher variant within limits set by the carmaker are generally allowed. However, engine swapping requires prior permission from the RTO. Violating these rules can lead to fines of Rs 5,000 per alteration or imprisonment for up to six months.
It’s essential to note that structural changes to vehicles are not legal in India, as per the Supreme Court and the Motor Vehicle Act. These modifications are prohibited for use on public roads. However, enthusiasts may keep such vehicles as project cars for private properties, like racing tracks or farmhouses.
