The upcoming Hyundai i20 facelift is expected to retain its existing powertrain options, but it may receive additional enhancements in terms of features. These potential upgrades could include paddle shifters, an updated touchscreen system, and possibly Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The Hyundai i20 has maintained a strong track record as one of Hyundai’s reliable performers. The current-generation model was initially launched in 2020, and it faces competition from vehicles such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza.
2023 Hyundai i20 facelift key updates
Earlier this year, in May, Hyundai unveiled the facelifted version of the i20 for international markets, and now it’s gearing up for its launch in India. It remains to be seen how closely the India-spec i20 facelift aligns with its international counterparts.
In terms of exterior changes, there are no major overhauls. Instead, there are some subtle updates, including a refreshed grille and slightly tweaked bumper design. The bumper edges now feature arrow-shaped inlets, a departure from the current triangular-shaped housings. The headlamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) remain the same as those on the current model. Hyundai has also repositioned its logo from the grille to the lower section of the bonnet, while the bonnet design itself remains unchanged.
The side profile of the car appears largely unchanged from the current model, with the addition of a new set of alloy wheels being the notable alteration. Moving to the rear, Hyundai has made some refinements to the faux diffuser and bumper. The reflectors have been repositioned, but the tail lights remain consistent with the earlier design. The 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift may introduce some new color options, and the dual-tone color schemes, featuring blacked-out pillars, roof, and rear-view mirrors, create a striking visual impact.
While the basic interior layout remains mostly the same, there are expectations of significant equipment upgrades. These could include the addition of a dual-dashcam, paddle shifters, and an updated digital instrument console. Paddle shifters are already available with the N Line variant of the i20. The seats are expected to feature a new theme, as showcased in the teaser.
With a growing focus on car safety, Hyundai might equip the i20 with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The European version of the new model has already received ADAS, and it could be offered with the top-spec variants in India. If it indeed receives ADAS, the i20 would become the first mainstream hatchback in India to offer this feature. These updates are anticipated to be introduced in the N Line variant as well.

2023 Hyundai i20 facelift engine options
The engine options for the 2023 i20 facelift will remain unchanged compared to the current model. It will continue to offer a 1.2-liter petrol engine that delivers 83 PS of maximum power and 114.7 Nm of peak torque when paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Opting for the IVT gearbox will provide a slightly higher power output of 88 PS. Another available engine option is the 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol unit, which generates 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission.
In the list of best-selling premium hatchbacks in the country, the i20 typically holds the third position. The top-selling premium hatchback is the Baleno, followed by the Tata Altroz. It remains to be seen if the new i20 facelift can narrow the sales gap with its primary competitors.
