Genesis G90 Sedan Launches in Europe This Month, Priced Higher Than Mercedes S-Class

Just over a year after its U.S. debut, the Genesis G90 is poised to make its European debut. Genesis, Hyundai’s premium automotive brand, has announced that the luxury sedan will be available for purchase in Germany and Switzerland starting on September 26, with leasing options to follow later.

Positioned as a formidable competitor to prestigious models such as the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8, the 2023 Genesis G90 comes in two variants for European buyers: the standard model and the long wheelbase version. In Germany, the base model starts at €115,000 ($122,756), while in Switzerland, it begins at 129,300 CHF ($144,141). Meanwhile, the long wheelbase version kicks off at €125,000 ($133,430) in Germany and 139,400 CHF ($155,400) in Switzerland.

In comparison, the starting price for a brand-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is slightly lower, listed on the local website at €111,729.10 ($119,264). BMW’s 7 Series starts at €116,000 ($123,823), and the base Audi A8 requires a minimum investment of €101,900 ($108,772). In the United States, the Genesis G90 has an MSRP of $88,400 and is offered with two powertrain options: the 3.5T AWD and 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD, delivering 375 and 409 horsepower, respectively.

Under the hood of the European version is a single powerplant—a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline engine equipped with a 48-volt electric supercharger. This setup yields a total system output of 415 ps (409 hp/305 kW) and generates 549 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque. Regardless of the chosen model, all-wheel-drive comes standard, and an eight-speed automatic transmission efficiently distributes power to both axles.

Beyond selecting the preferred wheelbase, with the longer version offering an extra 190 mm (7.5 in) of legroom, customers can also personalize their G90 with a choice of ten exterior colors, five interior color options, and six garnish selections. Both models are generously equipped, featuring Ergo Motion seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions, dual 10.2-inch touchscreen displays, and an 8-inch screen for climate control, ambient lighting adjustment, sunblind positioning, and access to massage settings and seating preferences.

Owners of the 2023 G90 can also boast about the sedan’s onboard fragrance system, UV-C light disinfection compartment, Mood Curator, 12.3-inch infotainment system, equally-sized digital instrument cluster, fingerprint authentication, premium Bang & Olufsen audio, luxurious wood trim, and numerous other amenities. Genesis’s flagship sedan is equipped with a suite of advanced safety systems, including lane-change oncoming, rear blind spot collision avoidance assist, forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot view monitor, surround view monitor, and more.

As previously mentioned, the 2023 Genesis G90 will be available for purchase in Germany and Switzerland starting on September 26.
