Tata Motors has introduced its first SUV with a CNG fuel option, the Tata Punch CNG, equipped with similar twin cylinder technology seen on the Altroz. The SUV was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo earlier this year and has now been launched in India. It comes in three variants: Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished, with prices ranging from Rs 7.1 lakh for the base variant to Rs 9.68 lakh for the top Punch CNG variant (ex-showroom).
The Punch CNG retains the same exterior dimensions as its petrol-powered counterpart, measuring 3,827mm in length, 1,742mm in width, and 1,615mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,445mm and a ground clearance of 187mm. It features R16 diamond-cut alloy wheels. Take a look at the base variant of the Tata Punch CNG in the video provided by AutoXP below.
Tata Punch Pure – Base Model Features
The Tata Punch Pure variant offers a range of exterior features, including black finished door handles and ORVMs, body-colored bumpers, wheel arches, and door cladding. It also comes with 90-degree door opening facilities, LED indicators, sill cladding, and black ODH (Outside Door Handle). Inside, the Pure trim boasts front power windows, tilt steering, central locking with key, and brake sway control. For safety, it is equipped with dual airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX provision.
Moving up to the Tata Punch Adventure variant, it adds more features to the Pure trim. These additions include ORVMs with electrical adjustment, follow-me-home headlamps, central locking with a flip key, full wheel covers, body-colored ORVMs, and ODH. The interior of the Adventure trim features a floating 8.89 cm infotainment system, four speakers, USB charging facilities, and all power windows. It also comes with steering-mounted controls and anti-glare IRVMs (Inside Rear View Mirrors).
Tata Punch Accomplished and Creative Variants
The Tata Punch CNG Accomplished variant shares all the features seen on the Adventure trim and adds several enhancements. It now comes equipped with a reverse parking camera, front fog lamps, LED tail lamps, and rides on R15 Hyper Style wheels. Inside the cabin, there is a larger 17.78cm touchscreen system with Harman infotainment, which includes 2 tweeters, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The Accomplished trim also offers a height-adjustable driver’s seat, one-touchdown door window, and front seat armrest.
In terms of connectivity, the front USB ports support both A and C types, while the rear USB port is of type A. Additionally, the Accomplished variant boasts cruise control and traction pro among its features. For those seeking more luxury, the Dazzle Sunroof pack is available as an option on both petrol and CNG variants. The electric sunroof is voice-assisted, and the pack also includes rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, and a shark fin antenna.
Powering the Tata Punch CNG is a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a factory-fitted CNG kit. In CNG mode, the engine delivers 76 horsepower and 97 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Punch CNG offers an impressive fuel efficiency of over 25km/kg. The twin 30-liter CNG tanks are thoughtfully placed on the floor of the boot to ensure maximum usable space.
