Tata Harrier EV: A Harrier with all-wheel-drive!

Tata Harrier EV: Even though we’d been hoping for the Sierra EV ever since it was first teased three years prior, the unveiling of the Tata Harrier EV at the Auto Expo 2023 came as a surprise. Similarly, we didn’t foresee the necessity for a Harrier EV, especially given the fact that consumers are increasingly favoring more affordable mass-market EVs like the Tiago EV. But now that an electric Harrier is a real possibility, we can’t help but get giddy about it! Following its debut at the Auto Expo, here is a rundown of what to anticipate from the Harrier EV.

Tata Harrier EV: When will it be launched?

After the introduction of the Tata Curvv and Tata Sierra EV, the all-electric Harrier EV is scheduled to hit the market by the year’s end. An all-electric Harrier won’t be available until the end of 2024, but in the meantime, you can upgrade your Harrier or Safari SUV with a new infotainment screen and the Red Dark Editions, which have exterior and interior upgrades.

Tata Harrier EV design

You are looking at the basic layout for the upcoming Harrier redesign. Since the front grille of the Harrier EV is blanked out to distinguish it from the ICE models, it is a practical trade-off given the reduced cooling needs of the EV models. The Harrier EV’s front fascia has been refreshed, it now has new alloy wheels, and it has been outfitted with a full-width LED tail lamp.

Tata Harrier EV platform

Tata Motors’ OMEGA-ARC platform will serve as the foundation for the Harrier EV. Tata’s Gen 2 architecture, in which an existing platform is upgraded and considerably re-engineered to accommodate an electric powertrain, will be used for this un-electrified platform. The Harrier EV differs most noticeably from the present ICE Harrier in that it is all-wheel-drive capable and has an independent rear suspension in place of the rear torsion beam. The independent rear setup assembly is interchangeable with an ICE powertrain, which means that both the Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari may theoretically be made with all-wheel drive.

Tata Harrier EV powertrains

It is expected that the Tata Harrier EV will be available with both a single electric motor front-wheel-drive (FWD) engine and a second electric motor, one mounted on each axle, to provide an all-wheel-drive. To coincide with the release of the Harrier’s updated models, Tata Motors is expected to offer the SUV with both the current diesel engine and the new 1.5-liter TGDI turbo-petrol engine, the latter of which will also power the Sierra. Although it has not been verified, in the not-too-distant future both the ICE and ICE-powered Harriers, and by a consequence, the Safari, will have all-wheel drive.
