Toyota Innova Hycross Vs Rivals: Price, Specifications Comparison

The long-awaited price list for the Toyota Innova Hycross has been made public. Prices range from Rs 18.30 lakh to Rs 28.97 lakh, and interested parties can reserve the new model for just Rs 50,000. The current Innova Crysta, which will also be upgraded in February 2023, will be available for purchase alongside the new model. With its more crossover-like styling and the first powerful hybrid engine in the market, the new Hycross is redefining the MPV.

Although the new Innova Hycross has no direct competitors, it faces competition from 3-row SUVs like the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700, as well as the more luxurious Kia Carnival MPV, thanks to its competitive cost. Here, we look at how the new Innova Hycross stacks up against its competitors in terms of cost, dimensions, and powertrain.

The new Hycross is 4,755 millimetres in length, 1,850 millimetres in width, 1,795 millimetres in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,850 millimetres. There is a 185mm gap between the undercarriage and the pavement. The seating capacity ranges from 7 to 8, depending on the model. Comparisons between the XUV700 and the Safari reveal that the new model is longer and taller. Toyota was able to fit more people comfortably inside by stretching out the wheelbase.

Dimensionally, the Mahindra XUV700 measures 4695.0 inches in length, 1890.0 inches in width, 1755.0 inches in height, and 2750. It can accommodate up to 7 people and has a 200mm ground clearance. Tata Safari, on the other hand, measures 4,661 millimetres in length, 1894 millimetres in width, 1786 millimetres in height, and 2741 millimetres in wheelbase. The SUV can accommodate up to seven people and has a ground clearance of 205 mm.

Compared to the Innova Hycross, the Kia Carnival is noticeably larger. The Carnival is positioned in a premium market niche, and its cabin provides generous amounts of personal space. Compared to the Hycross, it’s 360mm longer and 135mm broader. The Carnival’s wheelbase is 3050 millimetres, which is 210 millimetres longer than the wheelbase of the Hycross.

Only the Hycross and the XUV700 provide gasoline-powered motors as an option. In contrast, the latter can choose between a gasoline or diesel engine. Instead, the Innova Hycross stands itself from the competition by being the only model in its class to feature a powerful hybrid drivetrain.

Both a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol and a 2.0-litre petrol with a self-charging robust hybrid system are on offer for the new Innova Hycross. The former has a CVT and can generate 174 hp and 205 lb-ft of torque, while the powerful hybrid engine produces a combined 186 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for the hybrid version of the MPV is rated at 21.1kmpl according to the Automotive Research Association of India, and its ARAI-estimated range is 1097 kilometres.

The XUV700 is offered with a choice between two engines: a 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline unit producing 200 horsepower, or a 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit producing 185 horsepower. Both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission are available. Diesel models also include an all-wheel-drive arrangement. The diesel model is advertised as having a fuel economy of 15.5kmpl and a range of 930km on a single tank of gas.

The Safari has a single option of a 2.0-litre turbo diesel with 170 horsepower, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque convertor transmission. Supposedly, this front-wheel-drive SUV can travel up to 700 kilometres on a single tank of gas. A 2.2-litre turbo diesel producing 200 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque is mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic in the Carnival. This large MPV gets 13.9kmpl on the highway and can travel 834 kilometres on a single tank of gas.

Hycross gasoline models start at Rs 18.30 lakh and go up to Rs 19.20 lakh. On the other hand, the powerful hybrid version starts at Rs 24.01 lakh for the VX model and goes up to Rs 28.97 lakh for the top-spec ZX (O).

The starting price for a Safari SUV is Rs 15.45 lakh, while the highest-end version would set you back Rs 23.76 lakh. Diesel models of the XUV700 cost anywhere from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 24.95 lakh. The Carnival comes in three different trim levels that range in price from Rs 30.99 lakh to Rs 35.49 lakh: the Prestige, the Limousine, and the Limousine Plus.
