Tata Punch fuel efficiency: Is this new Tata SUV a fuel guzzler?

The abundance of SUVs of seemingly every size, especially in the sub-four-meter class, attests to the fact that this is one of the most popular body designs in the country. Tata Punch, a new SUV introduced today with prices beginning at 5.49 lakh, is the most recent addition to this class (ex-showroom, India). It is Tata’s entry-level SUV in India, and it competes with nothing particularly similar. Here in India, we also have the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100, but the Punch is both roomier and more functional than either of them. The Indian automaker had previously announced all the details of their new SUV, the Punch, and now they announced its price. The fuel efficiency numbers for the Tata Punch were the sole piece of information that was lacking. The manufacturer also provided this information, saying that the manual transmission and petrol engine in the Tata Punch achieve 19 km/l in fuel economy in testing. The AMT versions should get comparable gas mileage. Therefore, the Tata Punch is a fuel-efficient vehicle, though not quite as efficient as some other sub-four metre SUVs in India.

Tata Punch is equipped with an 85 horsepower and 113 Nm three-cylinder petrol engine that displaces 1.2 litres. Both a manual and an automatic transmission are available with this engine (AMT). Surprisingly, the Traction Pro mode, which provides sufficient traction for navigating rough terrain, is also included in the AMT models. The Tata Punch has a ground clearance of 187 mm, making it capable of navigating rough terrain. This isn’t as nice as the standard in India, but it does the job.

The Tata Punch is the third Tata car to receive a perfect score of five stars in Global NCAP’s crash test. With being said, the Punch has been deemed the safest car in India by Global NCAP thanks to its top score in the adult occupant protection category. The SUV has advanced safety features including as front and rear airbags, electronic brake-force distribution, corner stability control, a backup camera and sensors, electronic brake-force distribution, brake-away control, and more.

The Punch also comes standard with a number of convenient amenities, including a seven-inch touchscreen, iRA connection suite (as an available extra), a seven-inch TFT, cruise control, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and more. In India, the cost of a Tata Punch can be anywhere from 5.49 lakh and 9.09 lakh (excluding the customization packs). All of the prices listed are “ex-showroom” in India.
