For 2023, GMC adds to the Sierra 1500’s off-road prowess with the release of the AT4X AEV Edition, outfitted with accessories from American Expedition Vehicles. Steel front and rear bumpers with recovery points and a winch up front equip this dirt-specific vehicle.

The underside of the front end, the steering components, the transfer case, the fuel tank, and the rear differential are all protected by additional steel skid plates. Black 18-inch AEV Salta wheels are wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tyres for the AT4X AEV Edition. This year’s AT4X AEV Edition package is designed specifically for the off-road-oriented AT4X trim, which was introduced for 2022.

Inside, you’ll find premium materials like leather, wood, microsuede, and a plethora of cutting-edge technologies, solidifying AT4X’s status as a luxury pickup.

The high-output turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, the 5.3-liter V8, the 6.2-liter V8, and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 are the four engine options. The 4.3-liter V6 gasoline engine will no longer be offered after 2022.

Both the diesel and the 6.2-liter V8 compete for best in class when it comes to maximum towing capacity. In any circumstance, the diesel’s low-end grunt (460 lb-ft of torque @ 1,500 rpm) is impressive.

Although Sierra’s off-road capabilities fall short of those of the high-flying Ford F-150 Raptor, two off-road-specific models are available.

The suspension raise on the tough AT4 variant is 2.0 inches, and it comes with additional real features. Advanced spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and gnarly off-road tyres mounted on black 18-inch wheels are just some of the unique characteristics shared by the AT4X and the Silverado ZR2.

Even so, the 6.2-liter V-8 found in every Denali model will be found in the majority of Sierras. The SLE trim level introduces a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster as standard equipment. If you’re willing to spend a little more money, you can have access to some nice extras, like a heads-up display and a power-adjustable steering column.

With open-pore wood trim and a plethora of leather-covered surfaces, the Denali Ultimate is the pinnacle of luxury. Aside from the massage settings, the front chairs can be adjusted electronically in 16 different ways. The interior cubby storage is perfect for stowing away miscellaneous trinkets and knickknacks. While GMC doesn’t have any unique options for storage, the Sierra 1500 does provide a clever tailgate that can be adjusted in several ways. Carbon fiber is used to reinforce the cargo bed, making it lighter and purportedly stronger than steel.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system in most Sierra 1500s is controlled via a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built-in to this larger screen wirelessly.
