2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Prices, Specs, Colors and Pictures

The GMC Sierra 1500, one of the top three selling vehicles in the United States, is based on the Chevrolet Silverado and shares many of its components. Its high degree of customization will come in handy. The Sierra 1500 comes with a variety of cab configurations and bed sizes (from 5.8 feet to 8.2 feet) to suit your needs.

There is a 310-horsepower turbo four-cylinder, a 460-pound-foot-torque Duramax turbodiesel, a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8, and a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8. The Sierra 1500’s maximum conventional towing capacity of 13,200 pounds places it third among all half-ton pickups. So, tow that 747 if you darn well, please. However, Sierra’s cabin doesn’t feel as luxurious as the top-trim Ram 1500s, despite its available 13.4-inch touchscreen and other high-tech features.

What’s Coming in 2023?

For 2023, GMC adds to the Sierra 1500’s off-road prowess with the release of the AT4X AEV Edition, outfitted with accessories from American Expedition Vehicles. Steel front and rear bumpers with recovery points and a winch up front equip this dirt-specific vehicle.

The underside of the front end, the steering components, the transfer case, the fuel tank, and the rear differential are all protected by additional steel skid plates. Black 18-inch AEV Salta wheels are wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tyres for the AT4X AEV Edition. This year’s AT4X AEV Edition package is designed specifically for the off-road-oriented AT4X trim, which was introduced for 2022.

GMC Sierra 1500 Price

The base price of a brand new 2022 GMC Sierra is $34,600 (plus $895 for shipping).

Full-size pickup trucks are extremely popular, and the 2022 GMC Sierra faces stiff competition from models like the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, and even Sierra’s stablemate, the Chevrolet Silverado.

The GMC Sierra will receive a mid-cycle update for the 2022 model year. GMC’s full-size pickup now has an expressive lighting animation while approaching, starting, and leaving the truck, in addition to a reworked front grille and new headlights and taillights.

Improvements to the cabin address complaints that the outgoing Sierra’s design and materials put it at a disadvantage to the classier Ram 1500 and Ford F-150, especially in the higher trim levels. Buyers who are very picky about interior design may appreciate the Sierra’s redesigned center console design, restyled dashboard, and cockpit-oriented instrument panel.

GMC boosted the luxury vehicle segment by introducing the Denali Ultimate trim. The new trim takes the design changes from the refresh and amplifies them with higher quality materials and trim, such as real wood and metal trim pieces, a leather-wrapped dash, a synthetic suede headliner, and all the technology in GMC’s toolkit, as well as a standard 420-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard 4-wheel drive.

The Denali Ultimate has the newest Super Cruise hands-free driving technology with Automatic Lane Change that can tow a trailer (not while trailering). The “regular” Denali also has access to Super Cruise, and this feature may eventually make its way to the rest of the Sierra models.

GMC also offers a higher trim level, the AT4X, that is off-road and runs in conjunction with the other. Designed to be a step up from the off-road-oriented AT4, this grade adds several high-end touches to improve the vehicle’s performance and interior comfort.

It shares the same 6.2-liter V8/10-speed automatic transmission as the Denali Ultimate but has a 2-speed transfer case, Terrain Mode (capable of one-pedal rock-crawling), front and rear e-locking differentials, a larger skid plate covering the transfer case, 18-inch black wheels, and a more substantial skid plate. It also comes standard with four-wheel drive. Inside, you’ll find premium materials like leather, wood, microsuede, and a plethora of cutting-edge technologies, solidifying AT4X’s status as a luxury pickup.

The high-output turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, the 5.3-liter V8, the 6.2-liter V8, and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 are the four engine options. The 4.3-liter V6 gasoline engine will no longer be offered after 2022.

Both the diesel and the 6.2-liter V8 compete for best in class when it comes to maximum towing capacity. In any circumstance, the diesel’s low-end grunt (460 lb-ft of torque @ 1,500 rpm) is impressive.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Sierra can be had with a choice of four engines, two transmissions, and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Standard equipment consists of a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four producing 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. It works in concert with an automatic transmission that features eight gears. Both a 5.3-liter (355 hp) and a 6.2-liter (420 hp) V-8 are available. The 460 lb-ft of torque comes from a powerful diesel six-cylinder engine.

There is one 10-speed automatic transmission that connects to all three engines. Wheels as large as 22 inches in diameter and adaptive dampers are both options for the Sierra 1500. Although Sierra’s off-road capabilities fall short of those of the high-flying Ford F-150 Raptor, two off-road-specific models are available.

The suspension raise on the tough AT4 variant is 2.0 inches, and it comes with additional real features. Advanced spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and gnarly off-road tyres mounted on black 18-inch wheels are just some of the unique characteristics shared by the AT4X and the Silverado ZR2.

Steel rock sliders, an AEV 18-inch wheel setup, and a steel front bumper with a winch are just some of the serious off-road accessories included in the AT4X AEV package. Sierra’s ride isn’t as smooth as that of the Ram 1500, but it still manages to impress behind the wheel thanks to its quick steering and little body roll.

Towing and Payload Capacity

This GMC half-ton truck can carry a maximum payload of 2240 pounds and can tow up to 13,200 pounds.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Since the Sierra 1500 may be equipped with several different engines, it offers a wide range of estimated fuel efficiency. The diesel engine is an alternative for those who are concerned about gas mileage. It gets up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the interstate.

Even so, the 6.2-liter V-8 found in every Denali model will be found in the majority of Sierras. If you have all-wheel drive, you can expect a mileage of 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the interstate. In our real-world highway test, the Sierra 1500 Denali we used managed 18 mpg. Check out the EPA’s site for specifics on Sierra’s gas mileage.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Sierra’s cabin is crafted with the driver’s comfort and convenience in mind. Access to all controls is streamlined, and as you move up in trim, so does the quality of the fittings and upholstery. The SLE trim level introduces a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster as standard equipment. If you’re willing to spend a little more money, you can have access to some nice extras, like a heads-up display and a power-adjustable steering column.

With open-pore wood trim and a plethora of leather-covered surfaces, the Denali Ultimate is the pinnacle of luxury. Aside from the massage settings, the front chairs can be adjusted electronically in 16 different ways. The interior cubby storage is perfect for stowing away miscellaneous trinkets and knickknacks. While GMC doesn’t have any unique options for storage, the Sierra 1500 does provide a clever tailgate that can be adjusted in several ways. Carbon fiber is used to reinforce the cargo bed, making it lighter and purportedly stronger than steel.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system in most Sierra 1500s is controlled via a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built-in to this larger screen wirelessly. In addition, it comes preloaded with Google apps like Play, Maps, and the Assistant. A Bose 12-speaker sound system, wireless phone charging, and extra outlets round out the amenities.
