Ferrari SF90 Successor Spotted Testing for the First Time

Ferrari typically introduces new models after a span of approximately five years in the market. Given that the SF90 was launched in 2019 (with the “90” in its name commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team), it’s not surprising that a successor to this supercar is already in the works. Although still in the early stages of development, the first spy photos have emerged, showcasing a camouflaged prototype.

The showcased mule retains the same body as the existing SF90 but exhibits noticeable adjustments, particularly to the side intakes. These modifications suggest aerodynamic enhancements for the upcoming model. Observers have also noticed something intriguing about the exhaust system at the rear, as the actual pipes seem to be concealed behind the exhaust tips. Furthermore, information from photographers highlights changes to the rear fenders, likely to accommodate the revised suspension geometry.

Specifics about the underpinnings of this upcoming model, tentatively referred to as the SF100, remain limited. However, reports indicate it will utilize an updated version of the SF90’s architecture, a platform also employed by the 296. Continuing the tradition of a mid-engine layout, the SF100 might see an increased use of carbon fiber in its construction. One certainty is the inclusion of a hybrid powertrain, confirmed by the presence of yellow stickers indicating an electrified setup for the SF90’s successor.

Should Ferrari opt for a modified iteration of the existing electrified V8, it could entail utilizing the current supercar’s 4.0-liter V8 coupled with an eight-speed automatic as the foundation. In its present configuration, this powerplant generates 986 horsepower in standard form and reaches 1,016 hp in the upgraded SF90 XX. Assisting the combustion engine in the SF90 are three electric motors – two on the front axle and one at the rear.

Regarding the debut of the next-generation supercar, no official information has been provided by Ferrari. However, a well-informed estimate would suggest a launch in late 2024 or early 2025. It’s worth noting that Ferrari has not yet unveiled the anticipated SF90 LM, which is poised to be a track-focused iteration of the standard SF90. More details and recent spy photos of this model can be found in the related links section above. The SF90 LM will retain road legality but will boast significant aerodynamic enhancements.
