Ferrari F8 Bursts Into Flames During Stunt Shoot

YouTuber Cody Detwiler, famously known as Whistlin Diesel, was the owner of the ill-fated Ferrari F8, a vehicle that he had pushed to its limits multiple times before disaster struck.

The Ferrari F8 holds a unique place in history as one of the final Ferraris to resist the pull of electrification. Regrettably, one unit met a fiery end instead, and the incident was captured on camera by YouTuber Cody Detwiler, renowned as Whistlin Diesel.

This V8-powered supercar belonged to the 25-year-old Detwiler, who claims the incident was accidental. With temperatures soaring to 116 degrees Fahrenheit, Detwiler and his crew were observed recklessly driving the F8 and a Chrysler Pacifica through a Texas cornfield just prior to the blaze. Fortunately, all occupants managed to escape unharmed.

Detwiler is notorious for his daring car torture tests. Among his most notable exploits was the destruction of a Toyota Hilux after Top Gear asserted the truck’s indestructibility. He conceived the notion of dropping a Hilux from 10,000 feet, leading to the truck’s inevitable demise.

As for the F8, the fire left the car almost entirely consumed, including its twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine. Although the carbon ceramic brakes and titanium exhaust partially survived, valued at around $8,000, they were not spared from the blaze. Additionally, a Ferrari script badge and two Scuderia shields were recovered.

Subsequently, the fire department arrived at the scene to douse the flames, preventing the fire from spreading across the cornfield. Detwiler revealed that he had purchased the scorched F8 for approximately $400,000, while the minivan used for filming rolling shots, with only 5,000 miles on the odometer, was a rented vehicle.

Detwiler had been subjecting the red Ferrari to various forms of abuse since acquiring it earlier in the year. In February 2023, he proclaimed that he had bought the car specifically to destroy it. Six months later, he subjected the car to unconventional durability tests, including pelting it with stones and venturing offroad.

Acknowledging that Ferrari could potentially take legal action against him for his antics, Detwiler admitted that the car’s purchase was driven by curiosity about how the esteemed Prancing Horse brand would react. The automaker has previously blacklisted individuals for not adhering to their intended care for Ferraris.

Regardless of the potential consequences, Detwiler teased at the conclusion of the video that more Ferrari-related content would be coming to his channel in the future.
