Proton X50 Spied Testing in India: As of now, neither Proton nor Geely has said that they will be coming to India soon. If it comes out, the Proton X50 will compete with small SUVs.
India has one of the biggest car markets in the world. India has sold more cars than Japan so many times that it is now the third biggest car market in the world. In this market, there is a lot of action in the small SUV area.
If a new company wants to get into the Indian market, they might want to start by putting out a small SUV. As they try the Proton X50, Geely Holding Company might be thinking along these lines. Shantanu Godase, who likes cars, has seen a Proton X50 in India. Let’s take a look.
Proton X50 Spotted Testing
This is not the first time an Indian Proton car has been put through its paces. The last time it was seen was in January 2022. This Proton X50 test car was seen by Shantanu Godase on the Pune-Nashik highway near the Sinnar tollbooth. It has a red number plate, which is a temporary registration plate.
So, Proton could be trying the X50 for India or looking at the market as a whole. Or even just trying how well the X50’s platform works while an Indian-made car is being made. When it comes to the base, the X50 has the BMA modular platform, which was made by Geely and Volvo together. For Malaysia and other ASEAN areas, this Proton platform has a RHD layout.
It is a small SUV that is 4330 mm long, 1800 mm wide, 1609 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2600 mm. If it came out in India, it would compete with the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hycross, the MG Astor, the Skoda Kushaq, the VW Taigun, and the Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross that are coming out soon. In terms of style, it looks like it was made with Vauxhall in mind. It stands out and has a lot going for it. Even on the inside, it’s set up in a way that makes sense and looks about right for the market.
A lot of Chinese automakers want to sell their cars in India. They often use one of their companies that isn’t in China to do business in India. This is clear with MG, a British brand, and Geely already sells Volvos, a Swedish brand, in India. Proton is a name that is owned by Geely. Its roots are in Malaysia.
Geely Binyue is sold in China under the name Proton X50. Proton’s plant in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia, is where the X50 is made. Proton’s X50 comes in four different trim levels. Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship are the four types. As far as safety goes, the Proton X50 SUV has ADAS, 6 airbags, and a 5 star crash grade from ASEAN NCAP.
The only engine is a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that is paired with a 7-speed DCT transmission. There are two different ways to tune this engine. One tune makes 150 PS of power and 226 Nm of torque, and the other tune makes 177 PS of power and 255 Nm of torque. The second tune would become the most powerful small SUV tune right away.
