What is CSD Canteen Depot And Depot List?
The Army Canteen, often known as CSD (Canteen Stores Department), provides discounted commodities to military troops. Products like alcohol, medicine, and other common household necessities are included. One can even buy a car at a discount from the Army cafeteria. Those who qualify can buy a car from one of the 34 CSD Depots spread out around the country. However, having the vehicle’s registration at the same address is not required. Registration forms can be submitted from the comfort of one’s own home or from anywhere in the country.

CSD Car Eligibility
All government of India employees in the Defense Sector can use CSD to buy cars at a discount. Additionally, regardless of their rank, all active and former Defence commissioned officers can buy an automobile from the Canteen. And they can receive financing for the car from either private or government banks.
According to a table published by the CSD, any member of the Defense Force up to Level 9 is eligible to purchase a vehicle twice: once during employment and again after retirement, with an eight-year gap between the two purchases. However, individuals who have reached Level 10 can continue to upgrade their vehicle every 8 years after they’ve reached retirement age. Additionally, users with a level below 10 can purchase a vehicle with a 1400cc engine. A Level 10 or higher customer, however, can purchase a vehicle with a 2500cc engine or larger. What this implies in practise is that the recent revision of the rules prohibits the sale of luxury vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner and the highest trim level of the Ford Endeavour through the Army canteen.

All models of Maruti Suzuki automobiles are available through the canteen outlets at significantly reduced prices. Let’s look at some real-world instances to get a feel for how much it would cost to buy a car from the CSD’s canteen. The base price of a Maruti Swift CSD is 5 million rupees, but the same car would cost an ineligible buyer 5.85 million rupees (ex-showroom) in India. In a similar vein, the base price of a Maruti Alto CSD is Rs 3.10 lakh (ex-showroom), while the base price of a Maruti Alto Std is Rs 3.94 lakh.
When compared to the standard price of Rs 4.20 lakh, the CSD Price of Alto VXI (Rs 3.31 lakh) is a significant discount. While the base price of a Maruti Brezza CSD is only Rs 6.70 lakh, the price of an equivalent SUV in India is a whopping Rs 7.61 lakh. It is evident from the foregoing that the disparity between CSD and showroom prices for automobiles is quite large.

Let’s talk about the cost of a Hyundai CSD car from the CSD canteen next. Prices for the base “E Diesel” model of the Hyundai Creta CSD begin at Rs 6.80 lakh. The starting Creta Diesel pricing is Rs. 10.70 lakh (before taxes and fees), which is comparable. The standard Hyundai i20 starts at Rs 6.98 lakh, but the CSD version can be had for as little as Rs 3.62 lakh.
The current CSD vehicle price list also shows that the Verna can be had for as little as Rs 7.22 lakh. The difference between CSD and showroom prices for automobiles is sizable, yet ex-showroom prices begin at Rs 9.32 lakh. It’s also worth noting that getting an auto loan through the CSD vehicle instalment plan on any car is as simple as getting a loan when you buy a car from a showroom.

For instance, the base manual version of the Toyota Glanza V retails for Rs 6.70 lakh, while the base CVT automatic version costs Rs 7.35 lakh. The difference in cost is substantial, with one option costing Rs 7.49 lakh and the other Rs 8.69 lakh. This further demonstrates the fact that CSD car rates are far more affordable than buying from the showroom directly.

The base price of a Polo at the Army cafeteria is Rs 5.67, whereas the same car at the dealership would set you back Rs 5.84. The Ameo Highlight Diesel DSG automatic variant has a similar price difference between the Canteen and the showroom (Rs 8.86 lakh vs. R.99 lakh). Due to not meeting the CSD car purchase eligibility 2021 criteria, the Tiguan is not available through CSD.

If you were looking to buy a Tiago XE, for instance, you would have to fork out a hefty sum of money (Rs 4.99 lakh) rather than the more reasonable (Rs 4.15 lakh) CSD price. In 2022, the standard price of a Harrier XZ is Rs 18.39 million, but canteen prices drop it to Rs 17.98 lakh.

The most costly Mahindra model, the XUV700, is not eligible for CSD financing since it exceeds the vehicle price limit set for that programme in 2022. However, the Mahindra XUV300 is still on the market; the W8 petrol variant costs Rs 8.66 lakh, while the diesel costs Rs 10.13 lakh. Marazzo and Scorpio are also available for purchase in the cafeteria’s canteen store.
CSD Car Buying Eligibility Rule 2022
