New 2022 Honda Civic, Pricing, Specs | New Model information
For the 2022 model year, Honda’s best-selling compact car, the Civic, receives a full makeover that includes a sleeker exterior, more advanced technology, and an improved interior. As a result of these enhancements and others, it has made our Editors’ Choice list. Front-wheel drive is still required because Honda claims that all-wheel drive is not in the works. Customers can choose from several four-cylinder engines, including a turbocharged 1.5-liter. The Civic’s technological updates, such as a larger infotainment display, wireless smartphone connectivity, and improved driver-assistance features, are all significant upgrades that will help it compete with vehicles like the Hyundai Elantra, the Mazda 3, and the Toyota Corolla
What’s New for 2022?
For 2022, Honda completely reimagined the Civic, giving it a sleek new exterior and modernised cabin. The 2022 Honda Civic will come as a sedan and a hatchback, just like the outgoing generation.
The base price for a 2022 Honda Civic LX sedan is $22,350. Prices for brand-new 2022 Honda Civic hatchbacks start at $23,250 and go up to $29,850.
Since its introduction in 1973, Honda’s Civic has gone on to sell over 12 million units, making it one of the top three best-selling passenger cars in the United States. The current generation of the Civic, which debuted in 2015 and has won the KBB Best Buy award repeatedly, has proven to be the most popular new-car purchase in the United States among first-time buyers.
The all-new 2022 Honda Civic claims to bring back “timeless design concepts” from earlier models. Features like a large glass area and an excellent field of view are made possible by lowering the car’s hood, front fenders, and beltline.
The FWD Civic’s chassis has been redesigned to be much more rigid than before, and the car now has a wheelbase that is 1.4 inches longer, which results in more legroom in the back and a more comfortable ride. Honda avoided making the new Civic hatchback look more like a waggon by giving it a coupe-like roofline that still allows for generous rear headroom.
Both the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder (158 hp) and the turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder (180 hp) are available as engines. Connecting to the same CVT is how they work together (CVT).
However, buyers of the Sport and Touring versions of the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback will have the option of ordering a 6-speed manual transmission.
Fuel economy ratings from the EPA are slightly better than they were for the previous generation of Civic. In addition, Honda claims that the suspension has been fine-tuned to strike a balance between sportiness and comfort, with enhancements that sharpen the steering response and lessen the impact of bumps like railroad crossings. Backing out, the track has been widened by half an inch for increased stability, and new bushings drastically cut down on noise and vibration entering the 5-person cabin.
The Civic hatchback uses the same underpinnings as the sedan, but it is 4.9 inches shorter overall.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si, available only as a sedan, is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with 200 horsepower. A sport-tuned suspension and summer tyres are available to complement the eager engine, and the chassis is completed by a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip front differential. When compared to a standard Civic sedan, the Si’s front springs are 8% stiffer and the rear springs are an incredible 60% firmer.
The highly refined 2022 Honda Civic promises to continue this compact Honda’s impressive sales legacy with its updated looks, improved structure, and thoroughly modern set of safety and convenience items.
Alliston, Ontario, Canada is where production of the 2022 Honda Civic sedan and Civic Si takes place. Greensburg, Indiana is where the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback is assembled.
The new Honda Civic Type R, the most athletic model, will hit the market in 2022. Similar to the Si, it only comes with a manual transmission.

2022 Honda Civic Pricing
The MSRP of the 2022 Honda Civic LX Sedan is $22,350. About a third of all Civic sedan purchases will be of the LX trim, which is powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine.
The second 2.0-liter Civic sedan is the Sport. The base price of a Civic Sport, which includes 18-inch wheels and other largely aesthetic sporty features, is $23,300. According to Honda, the Sport will account for roughly 40% of all Civic purchases.
The Honda Civic EX is the base model of the lineup of sedans powered by the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, which is both more powerful and more fuel efficient than the 2.0-liter. At $25,350, the Civic EX is priced to account for about 20% of total sales.
The Touring trim level of the 2022 Honda Civic sedan lineup represents the top end of the price spectrum. The base price for this leather-trimmed Honda Civic is $28,950, but you can get it equipped with a premium 12-speaker Bose sound system and a 10-inch digital instrument panel for an additional $2,950. There will likely be 10% of Civic sedan sales that are of the Touring trim.
The base price of a 2022 Honda Civic hatchback is $23,350. Sport trim Civic hatchbacks can be had with either a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual transmission for a starting price of $24,550.
Both the 6-speed manual and the continuously variable automatic versions of the new Civic hatchback have a base price of $27,050. The Sport Touring model has a $29,850 base price.
Prices for the new 2022 Honda Civic Si begin at $27,300.
The 2022 Honda Civic includes a $1,015 destination fee.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Honda has decided to keep the same powertrain options for the new Civic as they did for the outgoing model, despite redesigning the car in every other way. The standard engine in the base model is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, while the optional engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. The newest Honda Civic is only available as a front-wheel-drive model.
Unfortunately, the manual transmission option for the sedan version of the previous generation Civic has been eliminated for 2022, leaving only a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT); however, a six-speed manual remains an option for the hatchback. The turbocharged Touring sedan we tested took 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph on our track, which is slightly slower than the result of the previous generation Civic.
Our best time to 60 mph was 7.3 seconds in the manual Sport Touring hatchback we tested. The responsive handling, informative steering, and well-balanced ride were all highlights of the previous generation, and they return here. We also review the high-performance Type-R and the sportier Si variants, both of which will be available with a manual transmission.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The new Honda Civic’s EX trim, which sits in the middle of the lineup, gets the highest fuel economy ratings from the EPA, at 33 city, 42 highway, and 36 combined mpg. We plan to test the 2022 Civic’s fuel economy on our standard 75 mph highway route as soon as we can. The EPA website has more details about the Civic’s gas mileage.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The new 2022 Civic has a sleeker interior than its predecessors, with sharper edges and a dashboard that conceals the air vents in a honeycomb-patterned mesh that spans the entire width of the panel. The new model’s centre console is more spacious and seems to have less clutter than its predecessor’s. There is what appears to be a large, deep bin in front of the shift lever where passengers can store their phones, keys, and snacks. Honda claims its cargo area is larger and passenger space is comparable.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display will be standard on the 2022 Civic, with a 9.0-inch unit and a 10.2-inch digital gauge display available as upgrades. When the larger of the two screens is used, wireless connectivity is available in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which come as standard. In-dash navigation, a Bose sound system, and a wireless charging pad for mobile devices are also available as extras.
