The 2023 Audi Q8 e-tron: The Most Fun and Plush Electric SUV You Can Buy?

The 2023 Audi Q8 e-tron has arrived in India with much anticipation, bringing with it a host of upgrades to solidify its position as a leading luxury electric vehicle in Audi’s expanding EV lineup. Formerly known as the e-tron, this latest version boasts numerous improvements to align with the brand’s latest EV offerings.

Upon its launch, the 2023 Audi Q8 e-tron will be available in both SUV and Sportback body types, featuring a larger 114 kWh battery, a significant upgrade from the original e-tron’s 95 kWh pack. Additionally, an India-specific 50 trim will be equipped with a 95 kWh battery. Despite being underpinned by the MLB Evo platform, which brings some limitations in interior space compared to purpose-built EVs, the overall styling exudes a futuristic appearance, complete with a new mesh grille, LED Matrix headlights, and an all-new 2D Audi logo. Sharper styling on the front and rear bumpers, along with the discreet e-tron name placement, further enhance aesthetics and improve aerodynamics for better handling characteristics.

The interior of the Q8 e-tron upholds Audi’s commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and comfort. It incorporates a 360-degree camera as a valuable new addition, but for a luxury vehicle with a price tag of over Rs. 1.5 crore, some apparent equipment and technologies are missing. The infotainment system, in particular, lags behind in terms of cutting-edge tech.

Among the feature highlights are a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, ambient lighting, four-zone automatic climate control, a wireless smartphone charger, and power-adjustable driver and co-passenger seats.

The 2023 Audi Q8 e-tron impresses with its steering response and stability, especially at higher speeds. However, given its price tag, some enthusiasts might expect it to be more dynamic and sporty, and the cornering capabilities may not be entirely satisfactory due to its high kerb weight. Nevertheless, the acclaimed air suspension ensures overall comfort, making it a suitable option for long journeys.

The 408 hp e-motor setup delivers linear acceleration, although it might not be as immediate as some might expect from a vehicle of its technical specifications. The top speed reaches 200 km/h. The improved regeneration system extends the range up to 582 km (600 km for the Sportback) on a single charge, and the practicality is further enhanced by the 4WD nature courtesy of the twin electric motors.

In conclusion, the new Audi Q8 e-tron boasts an attractive design and practicality, but it may not satisfy enthusiasts seeking highly sporty credentials. Moreover, some additional features could have been added to provide better value for the luxury vehicle’s price point.
