Honda Insight Price, Colors, Specs And Auto Facts

The 2022 Honda Insight is the next generation of Honda’s popular hybrid vehicle, the Civic Hybrid. The Insight is very similar to the Honda Civic in size and shape, but it has a more efficient gas-electric powertrain under the hood, making it quieter at low speeds and resulting in higher mpg. The Civic’s best qualities, such as a smooth ride, a nice cabin, and responsive steering, are all present here. The Insight is a pleasant-looking sedan that doesn’t cost more than non-hybrid rivals and will save you money at the pump, but at the expense of acceleration and noise when pressed.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

When compared to other hybrids, Insight strikes a better balance between peppy acceleration and frugal fuel consumption. It’s faster than any other hybrid we’ve tested and on par with the speed of many similarly sized conventionally powered vehicles. The Insight’s hybrid powertrain of gas engine and electric motors produces a total of 151 horsepower, enough to propel the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.7 seconds.

It can travel for about a mile on electric power alone at moderate speeds, but when you press the accelerator, the gasoline engine takes over without any jarring transitions. The Insight’s powertrain is quiet and refined unless you’re accelerating quickly, at which point the engine may become audible. Driving Insight is an extremely pleasurable experience. The ride quality and handling are excellent, and it is quiet, plush, and sophisticated.

Since it shares many mechanical characteristics with the Civic sedan, this is not surprising. Although it isn’t exactly a sports car, Insight has a smooth ride and competent handling. Its suspension is soft, so it rides smoothly over rough terrain, and its steering is quick, so it can change directions quickly and precisely. A lot of the clunkiness that plagues the brakes of other hybrids is absent from Insight’s pedal, which is progressive and predictable. Insight’s braking performance is on par with that of a conventional gas-powered car.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Insight EX trim gets 55 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway, while the Insight Touring trim, which is better equipped and features larger wheels and tyres, gets 51 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway. Both ratings are provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

When compared to rival hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Hyundai Ioniq, all three Insight models fall short in fuel economy. In contrast, the Insight Touring got 47 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway in our real-world test, which is 2 mpg better than the EPA estimates. Hybrids are typically more fuel-efficient in city driving conditions as compared to highway driving, so drivers who do a lot of stop-and-go driving can expect even better results.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The interior furnishings and fittings are tastefully situated between budget and high-end options. While it shares a platform with the Civic, the Insight has a more premium feel and performs admirably in comparison to other hybrids on the market. A digital gauge in the dashboard’s instrument cluster can be programmed to show whatever data the driver wants, from fuel economy to posted speed limits. The front seats of the Insight force you to sit low, but there’s still plenty of legroom. However, it’s disappointing that the driver’s seat doesn’t offer adjustable lumbar support.

There’s room for two full-grown adults in the back seats. The Insight’s battery pack is tucked away under the back seat, leaving plenty of room for long items thanks to the seats’ near-flat folding design. The Honda Insight is a conventional sedan with a separate trunk, but several of its rivals are hatchbacks, so they have more cargo space and are easier to load than the Honda. Insight’s center console is extremely versatile and provides a lot of storage space for your own belongings. The cargo hold has a couple of storage bins.

Infotainment and Connectivity

We appreciate that Honda finally added a volume knob to the infotainment system, but the menus can still get confusing, and there is no tuning knob. The 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, and it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and has an optional built-in navigation system.
