Toyota Rumion CNG Bookings Stopped as Waiting Period Soars to 9 Months: Is it Time to Look for Alternatives?

The Toyota Rumion, which is based on the Maruti Ertiga, made its debut in the Indian market in August 2023 and has quickly gained popularity. It is offered in three trims: S, G, and V, and shares many features with the Maruti Ertiga, including its powertrain options. In a recent update, Toyota has temporarily halted bookings for the CNG variant of the Rumion due to an overwhelming demand for this option. However, bookings for the petrol models remain unaffected and continue as usual.

Official Statement from Toyota Kirloskar Motor

The launch of the all-new Toyota Rumion in August this year has generated an exceptional response from our customers eagerly awaiting a Toyota vehicle in the B-MPV segment. We are delighted to witness the growing number of inquiries and strong bookings for the Toyota Rumion. The demand has exceeded our expectations, leading to extended delivery times, particularly for the CNG variant. To prevent any inconvenience to our customers caused by prolonged waiting periods, we have decided to temporarily suspend bookings for the CNG option. Nevertheless, we are still accepting bookings for the petrol variants of the Toyota Rumion.

The CNG variant is exclusively available in the base S trim, which sets it apart from the Maruti Ertiga, offered in two trims. The Rumion S CNG model boasts several features, including halogen projector headlights, LED taillights, full wheel covers, manual AC, a 4-speaker music system, and keyless entry. In terms of passenger safety, it is equipped with dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts (second row only), electronic stability program (ESP), and hill-hold assist. Priced at Rs 11.24 lakh (ex-showroom), this CNG-powered MPV is an excellent choice for fleet buyers and individuals seeking cost-effective and fuel-efficient transportation.

The Toyota Rumion S CNG shares the same 1.5-liter petrol engine as the standard versions. However, in the dual-fuel petrol+CNG configuration, this engine produces 88 PS of power and 121.5 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and delivers a fuel efficiency of 26.11 km/kg. In comparison, the petrol variant generates 103 PS and 137 Nm, and it offers an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
