Tesla Model Y Long Range Acceleration Boost

Tesla Model Y Long Range Acceleration Boost: Worth the Price?

In June of last year, Tesla introduced the Model Y to the Australian market, initially offering only the RWD and Performance variants. Nearly a year later, in April of this year, the highly anticipated long-range version was launched.

Now, Tesla has made it possible for customers to upgrade the acceleration of the dual-motor Model Y via the Australian market app.

This upgrade enhances the performance of the mid-spec Model Y, which typically accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds. With the acceleration boost upgrade, it shaves off 0.6 seconds, reducing the sprint time to 4.4 seconds.

Priced at $3,000, the acceleration boost can be conveniently purchased through the Tesla app by prospective Model Y Long Range buyers. This brings the Model Y Long Range much closer in terms of acceleration to Tesla’s flagship Model Y, the Performance variant, which achieves a 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds, making it only 0.7 seconds faster than the acceleration-boosted Model Y Long Range.

Interestingly, the new Model Y Long Range is priced at $78,400, which is $3,500 cheaper than its launch price back in April when it was priced at $81,900. This means that buyers can acquire a new Model Y Long Range and add the recently released acceleration boost while still staying within the original launch price.

Furthermore, the Model Y Long Range qualifies for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemptions, providing an additional advantage for those considering leasing this vehicle in 2023.

As Tesla remains the only brand in the local market to offer performance upgrades through software, this new revenue stream not only contributes to Tesla’s bottom line but also enhances the overall ownership experience for many Tesla owners.
