The Suzuki Jimny has been a hot topic in our industry for some time, and now we’re finally starting to see it in action on Indian roads.
In a recent incident in Mumbai, the LHD Suzuki Jimny was spotted without any camouflage. Since its debut at the Auto Expo 2020, the Jimny has generated a great deal of interest among the Indian public. Since last year, Mahindra Thar has been a market success story for affordable lifestyle off-road vehicles. The popularity of SUVs that are capable of extreme off-roading but don’t break the bank has reached new heights. Both the Thar and the Gurkha are expected to debut as 5-door versions in the near future, and the Jimny may follow suit.
LHD Suzuki Jimny Seen in Mumbai
CS 12 VLOGS published this segment on YouTube in the format known as YouTube Shorts. This video shows a lime-colored Jimny driving around Mumbai in broad daylight. Excited onlookers can be seen waving at the SUV as they go along the road. They are captured on camera taking pictures and videos of Jimny. Considering that Suzuki already produces the Jimny in India for export, this is not unexpected. That’s why it’s been noticed so often on local roads:
But Maruti Suzuki has done a good job of responding to the tastes of Indian consumers. Consumers who are looking to save money naturally want to get the most for their money. In that respect, thar is typical. The cabin is quite cramped, with only 4 available seats and almost little cargo space. That’s why everyone’s waiting for the five-door model, which will free up more room in the back seat and trunk. So, Suzuki will arrive with all she needs. It’s likely that only the 5-door version will go on sale at first.
Specs-wise, there is scant information available. The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine in a standard Suzuki Jimny generates around 103 hp and 138 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The Jimny is powered by this engine even in global markets. This powerplant can be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. As a matter of fact, we anticipate the 5-door Jimny to arrive in our market with the same powertrain, albeit possibly with some slight adjustments to the calibration.
