Porsche Macan
The Porsche Macan is the brand’s smallest SUV delivering more interior room than a sports car while still maintaining the brand’s sporty character. The base model comes with a turbocharged 4-cylinder, while the S trim and the GTS have much more potent twin-turbo V-6s.
Even those who have never been fans of SUVs will find the Macan’s sharp handling and pleasant driving character to be a pleasant surprise. For these reasons, it ranks as one of our top mashups. While competitors like the BMW X3 and the Genesis GV70 come equipped with more opulent features, the Macan stands apart as a premium, compact SUV that puts the needs of its driver ahead of everything else.
The MSRP for the 2021 Porsche Macan is $52,100, with an additional $1,350 for shipping and handling. The base price of a Porsche Macan S is $60,200, while the base price of a Macan GTS is $72,100. The top-tier 2021 Porsche Macan Turbo begins at $84,600. Still, a Porsche Macan Turbo with all the trimmings can easily cost over $100,000.
Among compact luxury SUVs, the Porsche Macan’s price tag is now among the highest available.

The Macan can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in under 5.0 seconds when equipped with the standard turbo four-cylinder engine. It’s lively around town, but true speed demons should go for the GTS or S model with its twin-turbo V-6 engine, which produces 434 horsepower and accelerates to 60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds in our testing.
The Macan S has a zero to sixty mph time of 3.8 seconds on our test track, putting it only a hair behind the more powerful GTS. Porsche’s Macan S and GTS models are noticeably quicker than the Audi SQ5 and Jaguar F-Pace S. To be honest, an SUV doesn’t have to be able to get going quite that fast, but it’s much appreciated anyway. Although acceleration is crucial in a crossover with athletic aspirations, the Macan’s overall roadworthiness is what really sells us on it.
It mimics the ride and handling of a sports car extremely well. Incredible comfort and precise handling mean that only the rarest of bumps in the road will be felt by the driver. The steering is slightly lighter than that of a Porsche sports car, but it is still extremely precise and has a nice feel.
According to the EPA, the Macan base model with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gets 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Both the S and GTS use the same twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6, yet the S achieves 23 mpg on the interstate while the GTS only achieves 22 mpg. The Macan S improved upon its highway fuel economy number by 3 mpg on our real-world highway fuel-efficiency loop, which we drove at 75 mph.
Standard interior fittings in the Macan are disappointing for a crossover of this price and pedigree, and it’s costly to outfit one in a manner that befits the Porsche crest. Additionally, the Macan’s rear seat occupants have less room than those in rival vehicles. Comfortable as they may be, the power-adjustable front seats are the only standard feature that adds a touch of class to the cabin.
To some extent, having the entire cabin covered in leather might help, but Porsche, true to its reputation for exorbitant pricing, charges an additional $2230 to cover the dashboard and doors with cowhide. The Macan is one of the least useful vehicles in its class due to its short trunk and lack of internal storage space. When, exactly, did it become reasonable to spend money on a Porsche? Behind the bench, we can store six bags, and with the rear seats folding, we can store 16. This should be sufficient for most passengers.
The Porsche infotainment system offers a wide variety of advanced options, but they don’t come cheap. The cabin is equipped with USB connections and 12-volt outlets so that everyone may keep their electronics powered. Standard features include a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay, however, no Macan has Android Auto.
