On October 11, BYD will introduce the Atto 3 in India. It’ll be the company’s second model after the E6 MPV, and it’ll have higher-end amenities and materials than the electric people mover.
The Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV are the SUVs that the Atto 3 most closely competes with, but it is significantly larger than them at 4.45 meters in length. It looks cool from the outside, and the inside is just as unique, with slot machine-style air vents and a swiveling 12.8-inch touchscreen.
It will have modern conveniences including a wireless phone charger, LED headlights and taillights, a panoramic sunroof, and a digital driver’s display. Seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and driver assistance features including forwarding collision prevention and blind spot monitoring are all standard equipment.
Blade battery packs with 50kWh and 60kWh capacities are anticipated to be available for the Atto 3. Depending on the battery size and the quick charging capabilities, it will have a range of 345-420 kilometers. A 204-horsepower electric motor gives it a 0 to 100 kilometers per hour time of 7.3 seconds.
At first, CKDs of the Atto 3 will be imported and assembled in the country of purchase.

Interior comfort, space & storage
The interior of the Atto 3 is anything but the restrained simplicity of the exterior.
It’s a cacophony of curving lines, asymmetrical air vents, and door bins with red elastic stretched so tautly that they can be played like a guitar.
BYD claims its designers were influenced by “fitness culture,” and the dashboard’s protruding middle part is designed to resemble a muscle, while the air vents are cylindrical and the gear shifter is clunky. When you take the time to look around the cabin in greater detail, you’ll see that the basics haven’t been forgotten, even though at first glance it may seem a bit crazy.
The front seats are powered by a smooth motor and are upholstered in synthetic leather for comfort. The seat is well contoured, and there is a huge bin right at your elbow as well as a second bin underneath the center console, so you won’t run out of storage space. Large storage space for the glove box.
Even though it’s only five inches in diameter, the digital instrument cluster positioned on the steering column provides plenty of information and is easy to view from any angle.
There’s a little less action in the back, but the same air of roominess and ease of travel applies. Since the Atto 3 is constructed on a specific EV platform, there is no bulky transmission tunnel to in in the way of your comfortable knees.
There are vents in the back, as well as Isofix connectors for child safety seats on the outside seats. The front passenger seat also has an Isofix attachment point, but we couldn’t find a clip to use as a top tether.
With two USB connections up front and two more on the back of the center console, connectivity is adequate. The wireless charging pad is located in front of the gear shifter.
Furthermore, everything seems to be securely fastened. The materials used, while a bit unusual in spots (the curved white portion in the center of the dash feels like an old wetsuit) are all of a high standard. When compared to a vehicle like a Nissan Leaf or MG ZS, the interior of this one is noticeably more polished.
However, the most opulent amenity is likely the availability of the extra room. The Atto 3 is superior to the competition in nearly every measurable way, including a substantially roomier and broader cabin compared to that of an MG ZS.
