Genesis GV60: Review, Pricing, and Specs + Everything we know!
With its fun and satisfying 2023 GV60 crossover, the ambitious luxury brand Genesis is going after the luxury EV market. The GV60 looks like other Genesis models, but it doesn’t have the brand’s large trapezoidal grille that runs between the dual-element headlamps. Instead, it has a thinner grille that runs across the front bumper. Inside, the GV60’s cabin looks very high-end, with a large monolithic display screen that serves as both a gauge cluster and an infotainment system, and a unique crystal sphere shifter that rotates to show itself when the SUV is turned on. At launch, buyers can choose between the Advanced trim with 314 hp or the Performance trim with 429 hp. The estimated range per charge ranges from 235 to 248 miles. Luxury SUVs like the Audi Q4 e-Tron, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the C40 Recharge, which looks like a coupe, are similar in terms of prestige and driving range. However, the GV60’s attention to detail and quirky touches make it an interesting and unique alternative.
Genesis GV60 Release Date
When the Genesis GV60 comes out next year, it will be unlike any other roomy coupe you’ve ever seen, felt, filled up, or driven. A Genesis car that is different from all the others is about to go on sale around the world. The Genesis GV60 will be the first luxury car in the Genesis line to have a “60” in its name. It will also be the first Genesis car to be powered by a brand-new, all-electric system. Clean power with personality and a look that’s unlike anything else in our showroom is coming.
On August 16, 2021, this model was shown to the public for the first time in Seoul, Korea. In the coming months, more information about the Genesis GV60 should make its way to drivers in the United States. For now, here is everything we know about this model from Genesis that is a modern marvel.
FAQs About the Genesis GV60 Release Date
Even though this car has only been out for a few days, car fans all over the world always pay attention when a brand-new model comes out. Here are some questions that experts already have about when the Genesis GV60 will come out and what its best features will be.
Why Does GV stanD For?
Before the Genesis GV60 release date arrives at a dealership near you, you should know why this new coupe model is called what it is. As with other Genesis models, the “G” in “Genesis GV60” stands for the Genesis brand, but the “V” is a unique name for this model. “V” stands for how versatile this car is, and “60” puts it in the Genesis lineup next to other cars with the same number. All of the cars on our lot are examples of “Athletic Elegance,” and this new release with many features will be no different.
Is The Genesis The Electric Vehicle from Genesis?
There are plans for an electric Genesis G80, which will give people who like sedans another fuel option for their luxury SUV. But the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) will make its debut in the Genesis GV60 coupe. This platform is expected to have a large range and fast charging speeds.
What Special Features Are Planned For The GV60?
We’d say the Genesis GV60 electric is special from top to bottom, but if we had to pick one thing to highlight, it would be the Crystal Sphere. It’s a unique feature that has more than one use and shows that this car is always looking to the future. When you press the button to open the garage door and get into your new car, the sphere turns and the Shift By Wire appears. This connects you to everything in your car and gets it ready to go. The Crystal Sphere turns into the car’s mood lights when the engine isn’t running. Set them up however you want for drives you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
What is the Genesis GV60 range?
235 & 248 miles (EPA-est. ratings) for the American market AWD variants.
Get Your Hands on a Genesis GV60 Soon
We don’t know exactly when the Genesis GV60 will be available at a dealership near you, but we’re sure it will be a big deal when you can finally get your hands on it. After all, this perfectly combines the core Genesis ideas of athletic luxury and top performance. This car is made to be fascinating, whether you’re standing next to it and looking at the clamshell top or sitting inside next to the multidimensional crystal sphere lighting setup and listening to loud music. Drive the car that makes every trip feel like you’re in the front row at your favorite show.
The front fascia is also designed for speed, and you’ll wonder how the edges of a car with so much space can look so smooth. Inside, you can stretch your arms and legs out and use a smart touchscreen to run the show. This car tells you to take charge and never think about how you used to drive. When you drive a Genesis GV60 coupe, you can touch the future.
Genesis GV60 Exterior
The Genesis GV60 doesn’t look like any other car on the market, just like the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, which are also new electric cars from the Hyundai Motor Group. Its unusual design shows that the company is trying to break out of the same old routine and bring in new technologies from the future. The Genesis Electrified GV70, which is the all-electric version of the Genesis GV70 midsize SUV, is bigger than the Genesis GV60. It has the same signature design elements as other Genesis SUVs, but it has a very different body style.

At the front, the GV60 has the signature Two-Line Quad Lamps with jewel-pattern LEDs, a new Crest Grille that is wider and at the bottom (instead of between the headlamps), a clamshell hood, and a new wing emblem that is nearly 80 percent thinner and has the Guilloché pattern of luxury watches.
The Genesis GV60 is an SUV-coupe, and the sides and back look like the Genesis Mint Concept from the 2019 New York International Auto Show. The concept car inspired the rising beltline and roofline.
The roof of the car slopes sharply backward, which is a key feature of a coupe. Behind the rear quarter glass, a sharp-looking “V” shape is made by a chrome window trim that drops down from the C-pillar. This part of Genesis is called the “Volt DLO.” The camera-based virtual mirrors or digital mirrors are another sharp part on the sides. The body is smooth and has no undercuts or character lines, giving it a low-key look that matches the zero-emissions powertrain, which is silent but very powerful.
The flush door handles are powered by electricity and pop out automatically when you get close to the car. The charging port is above the right wheel arch, and a semicircular LED indicator with dots shows how charging is going. Alloy wheels come in sizes of 19, 20, and 21 inches.
At the back, the tailgate looks a bit like the Volvo C40, but the design is unique. The roofline flows quickly into the tailgate, which is curved and has a black spoiler at the end of the windshield. The part of the V-shaped C-pillar that is black on the inside flows out to meet the rear spoiler. In a signature style, the taillights are split into four parts, but unlike other Genesis cars, they get smaller as they move toward the inside.

The unusual GV60 has a color scheme that was thought up by a creative Genesis team.
Genesis offers the GV60 EV in a total of 9 color options in the global market:

Genesis GV60 Interior
The Genesis GV60 is made in the minimalist style that is popular right now. The dashboard, center console, and instrument panel all have a low profile that is typical of newer electric cars. Several parts, like the compact two-spoke steering wheel with scrollers for different functions, the horn cover, door handles, electronic gear selector, and side mirror adjuster, all have a circular design.
Crystal sphere
The electronic gear selector is the best thing about the inside of the Genesis GV60. It’s called “Crystal Sphere” and comes from the Genesis X Concept. It’s a shift-by-wire system in the shape of a sphere that can also be set up as a mood light when the car is off. When the driver is ready to drive, it turns, and the shift-by-wire appears. It makes the EV seem even more like something from the future. It’s a safety feature because it lets you know if the car is on or off, which isn’t easy to tell in an electric vehicle.
AVN & comfort
Some of the other great things about the GV60’s interior are its virtual instrument cluster, small touchscreen climate control panel, floating widescreen infotainment system, and thin horizontal air vents. Lastly, the 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with Hi-Res audio output lets the driver and passengers relax by playing one of the EV’s four mood sounds: Relax, Energetic, Bright, or Warm.
The interior is a step up from that of the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. It has better-looking and higher-quality upholstery, more comfort and convenience features like massage seats and an entertainment system for the back seats, and a more sophisticated color scheme.
Sustainable & eco-friendly
The opulence that most people expect from a luxury car is set by the soft-touch fabrics and high-quality dashboard trim. Genesis uses eco-friendly and recycled materials to make a lot of the stuff inside the GV60. For example, the seats, door armrests, and crash pads are all made of leather made from plants. For example, the seat covers and door center trims of the EV use fabrics made from yarns made from recycled PET bottles and fishnets.
The first Genesis EV has a skateboard-shaped platform that holds the battery pack and other important parts underneath the car to give the car’s passengers more space inside. It would make the driver and front passenger feel like they were closer to each other, and it would let the people in the back use the wireless phone charger.
The roof of the Genesis GV60 doesn’t slope down sharply until the C-pillar, so it doesn’t take away much from the headroom in the back. Even though it has the same basic design as the Ioniq 5, the Genesis GV60 is in the luxury class and has more amenities. For example, unlike the Hyundai EV, the B-pillars are where the AC vents for the back seats are. Also, the AC vents and door panels are shiny, which is a sign of a luxury car. To make the space in the trunk more flexible, the second-row seats could slide as well as recline.

Interior colors
Genesis offers five different interior color options for the GV60:
- Obsidian Black
- Torrent Navy
- Ash Gray/Glacier White
- Monstera Green/Camel Beige
- Monstera Green/Glassier White
Genesis GV60 New unlocking methods
Face recognition
Face Connect is a recognition system on the Genesis GV60 that makes it easy to get in. A Near Infra-Red (NIR) camera on the B-pillar on the driver’s side scans the driver’s face automatically to unlock the doors. Face Connect lets the driver get in even if the keys are inside the car. So, customers can feel safe doing things outside like running, swimming, surfing, canoeing, etc., while leaving the keys in the car. Face Connect can remember up to two faces at once.
If the driver who unlocks the car has a saved profile with different settings, the car will make any changes that need to be made when the driver unlocks the car. The driver’s seat, steering wheel, side mirrors, and infotainment system all change automatically based on the driver’s profile.
Fingerprint recognition
The Genesis GV60 has a fingerprint reader, just like the GV70 and the EV version of the GV70. Face recognition can let the driver into the car, and a fingerprint reader can be used to turn the car on. The Valet mode can also be turned off and payments can be made easily from inside the car thanks to biometric authentication.
Digital Key 2
The GV60 is the first Genesis model that can use Digital Key 2, which is an updated version of the brand’s Digital Key.
To unlock the car with Digital Key, the driver has to hold their phone up to the front door handle. With Digital Key 2, all the driver has to do to unlock the car is touch the door handle. There’s no need to pull out the phone. Ultra-wideband wireless communication is used by Digital Key 2 to find the key. As with the first version, the owner can give the digital key to the car to up to three other people.
Digital Key 2 works with smartphones from Apple, Samsung, and the Apple Watch.
Genesis GV60 Safety
The Genesis GV60 features eight airbags and a slew of advanced driver assistance systems, listed below:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)

Range
The Genesis GV60 EV uses the same Electric Global Modular Platform as the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 (E-GMP). The GV60 comes with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.
The 2023 GV60 comes to the U.S. in two versions: Advanced AWD and Performance AWD. The EPA says that the Advanced AWD version can go 248 miles on a full charge, while the Performance AWD version can only go 235 miles on a full charge.
With plug-and-charge technology, charging is easy. When the EV is plugged in, the charger automatically recognizes it and starts charging. Another benefit is that the EV’s stored payment information is used to automatically process the payment.
A V2L function lets electronic devices outside of the car get up to 3.6 kW* of power. V2L lets you use the power from the battery pack to run home appliances and other high-powered equipment. This can be helpful when you’re camping in a remote area or when the power goes out. Also, bidirectional charging lets you save an EV that is stuck because its battery is dead.
Performance
The GV60 comes in two different styles, but both of them have two motors, one in the front and a stronger one in the back. The motors in the Advanced AWD version make 234 kW (314 hp) and 446 lb-ft. The motors in the Performance AWD version make 320 kW (429 hp) and 446 lb-ft. It has a special mode called “Boost Mode,” which gives it more power and torque for 10 seconds. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 4.0 seconds. Even though that time is for the South Korean version of the GV60, it should be just as fast for the U.S. version.

Genesis put a Drift Mode in the GV60 for drivers who like to slide sideways. This mode lets you change how fast the car goes and how it stops. The vehicle comes with an electronic-Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) that lets the torque be spread between the left and back wheels in the best way possible.
Genesis gave the GV60 the electric-Active Sound Design (e-ASD), which makes virtual driving sounds based on the driving mode, speed, and accelerator pedal data. This makes the GV60 more fun to drive when you’re going fast. Futuristic, G-Engine, and E-Motor are the three sound options. With “Active Noise Control – Road” noise-canceling technology, the driver and other passengers can travel more comfortably when the driver is not rushing.
Charging
There are both 400-volt and 800-volt charging systems that can be used. If you use 800 volts, you can reach a peak charging rate of 350 kW. At 350 kW, it only takes 18 minutes to charge from 10% SoC to 80% SoC. Normal charging is possible with up to 11 kW of alternating current. When an American buys a GV60 in 2023, they get three years of free 30-minute charging sessions.
IONITY is installing 350 kW chargers on European highways. If you haven’t heard of IONITY before, it is a high-end charging network that BMW Group, Daimler AG, Porsche AG, and Ford Motor Company have made together. In September 2019, Hyundai Motor Group became an owner.
Extra features available in S.Korea
Virtual mirrors
In South Korea, the GV60 has technology that is ahead of its time, like virtual mirrors. On the front door panel, there are two screens, one on each side. Each screen shows the feed from one of the virtual mirrors. Virtual mirrors cut down on blind spots and make the view clearer in dark, cloudy weather or when the sun is shining directly on the road. They make the car narrower, which makes it easier to park and reduces wind noise, making it quieter inside when driving on the highway. There is also the benefit of a smaller size, which makes it easier to move through the air because there is less drag. Because of U.S. laws, this feature is not available on cars made for the U.S. market.
Wireless Charging
With the GV60, Genesis is the first car company in the world to offer wireless EV charging. The company had planned to start a pilot project for wireless charging infrastructure in the fourth quarter of 2021. (October-December 2021). It was a little late, so it couldn’t make that deadline.
On January 3, 2022, Genesis announced that a pilot project to charge electric vehicles wirelessly would begin at Genesis Gangnam, Genesis Suji, and Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang in South Korea. At each site, the company has put in a wireless charger at the EV charging station. During the pilot project, it plans to put about 75 wireless chargers in different places where EVs can be charged.
The driver must park the front of the GV60 on the EV charging mat for wireless charging to begin. Genesis is working on this technology with WiTricity, a company in the US that specializes in wireless charging for EVs.
The GV60 can be charged without a plug on the floor of parking lots that support it. If the pilot program works, Genesis could start selling the innovative convenience feature to a large number of people as early as 2023 or later.
Genesis tries to show that it is a leader in electric vehicles by making improvements to how they charge. It plans to use new technology to make the GV60 more competitive in the global market. In European countries, wireless charging stations are still in the testing phase. It will take some time for them to be standardized and widely used, but Genesis wants to set the trend.
Exclusive charging stations
Users of Genesis electric cars in South Korea will be able to charge their cars at a charging station, just like Tesla customers. A report from mt. co.KR says that Hyundai Motor Group plans to build a charging network for Genesis cars that will only work in its home market.
At first, there will be Genesis EV charging stations in Seoul, Goyang, Hanam, Anseong, and Yongin. Even though there is no confirmation, it seems likely that these charging stations would be of the highest quality, with 800V high-voltage poles that allow 350 kW fast charging. The technology used in the Genesis EV chargers might be the same as that used in the Hyundai Hi-Chargers at the Hyundai Motor Studio in Goyang. When the time comes, a charging network for Genesis EVs could be set up in the U.S. and other places as well.

Genesis also has a place in New York called Genesis House where people can learn more about the brand. The 46,000-square-foot, three-story building has a showroom, as well as a South Korean restaurant and a teahouse where customers can enjoy the culture of the country. This building has a lightbox theatre, a cafe, a shop, and an outdoor deck.
GV60 holds on to 88.5% range in -7 degrees Celsius
ET News, which published the results of the test on February 9, 2022, said that a test done in South Korea showed that the Genesis GV60 was able to keep 88.5 percent of its range in very cold weather. When it’s cold outside, the batteries in electric cars lose their power faster. This is where modern battery insulation comes in handy.
The GV60’s range dropped from 470 km at room temperature to 416 km at -7 degrees Celsius (19.4 degrees Fahrenheit). The GV60 was the fourth-best of the 15 cars that were tested for their range in cold weather. In the same test, the Chevrolet Bolt EV’s range dropped from 414 km to 273 km, a loss of 141 km. Its sedan sibling, the Genesis Electrified G80, did the best, keeping 94.9 percent of its range even though the temperature dropped.
Genesis electric vehicle business strategy
The business strategy team at Genesis has decided that it is too late for a Genesis hybrid car and that it would be better to go straight to BEVs. Thedetroitbureau.com said in October 2020 that Del Rosso, the CEO of Genesis for North America, said that the company has no plans to make hybrid or plug-in hybrid cars.
Genesis will be the first brand in the Hyundai Motor Group to stop making cars that run on fossil fuels. On September 2, 2021, the company said that starting in 2025, it would only make BEVs and FCEVs. By 2030, it will stop making combustion models and become a brand that only makes cars with no emissions. The company wants to become carbon neutral by 2035 and make all of its worksites and production plants as environmentally friendly as possible.
In the next few years, Genesis will add six more electric vehicles to its line-up. On the right side of the teaser, you can see what looks like four SUVs. After the Genesis Electrified G80 and the Genesis GV60, the Genesis Electrified GV70 came out at the end of 2021. It will also be sold in the US.
Genesis sold 138,756 cars around the world in 2021, and it wants to sell more than 200,000 cars this year. The President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, Jaehoon Chang, told the Korean media at the launch of the 2022 Genesis G90 that they expect to sell between 215,000 and 220,000 Genesis cars. This is according to a report from The Investor.
Genesis had its best quarter of sales ever in the U.S. in Q1 2022 when it sold 11,723 units, which was a 42.6 percent increase over Q1 2021. In 2016, the brand came to the American market.
